I've got a newish Les Paul that the fingerboard inlays are popping up. I assume the glue has failed. Anyone know what Gibson is using these days?

It might be worth popping one out entirely and seeing if you can identify it?

Based on my experiences with Gibson and obtaining info from them I bet even they do not know what they are doing or using at any given moment......

That is sadly telling of Gibson's problems, isn't it?

I just had one in my shop today that had this happen. The inlay had completely fallen out. The crust on the inside was reminiscent of titebond.

I put it back in using a bit of CA glue

Good to know, Dan. I'm supposed to meet the guy in an hour to pick it up...

I should have taken a picture.... I popped an inlay out, and in the bottom is what looks like yellow paint. I cleaned up the back of the inlay, scraped out the yellow stuff, added a drop or two of Titebond, and clamped it down. Now I have 4 more to go....

Well, I couldn't get the other 4 out of the fingerboard. I was afraid I'd crack one getting it out, or chip the rosewood. So I wicked a drop of super glue on each end, and held the ends of the inlay down with my fingers (wax paper to prevent sticking). Cleaned up the glue with a sharp Exacto and Scotchbrite. Wiped the whole thing down with lemon oil - it's now smooth and looking good.
